Wolfgang's Big Night Out - Setzer Orchestra, The Brian
After the second Setzer Christmas album left me a bit flat, I was really hoping there was a "real" Setzer Orchestra album coming. While we didn't get one on the vein of the first four studio albums, this was close.
This was a themed album where all the songs were based on some classical piece of music. Some of the examples are Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King, plus things like Flight of the Bumblebee. Bumblebee is quite good actually, Brian's guitar work during the signature piece of that music is very enjoyable.
This might be more accessible to people who haven't bought BSO albums in the past, as the music is more recognizable to some people, I would think. Beyond the real hits of his previous albums, most of those songs are unknown. People know these, and the twist that Setzer puts on them is quite refreshing. I really enjoyed this.
I have this as an iTunes purchase, not a physical CD.
