Mellencamp, John

Trouble No More (2003)

This isn't a typical Mellencamp album. For starters, it's not his music - these are all cover songs. A lot sound like old blues & "classic rock (aka 60's)" tunes, and there's one where I swear he sounds like Bob Dylan. This one probably isn't for everyone, but there is some good music on here. I was singing along to a couple of tunes, and tapping my foot to several more - and that was on my first listen to it. Update: After listening to this a few more times, I have to say I really enjoy it. It's definitely NOT typical Mellencamp music, but I ended up really enjoying it, and I wasn't bored towards the end of the disc like I am with many other albums.

I bought this after liking the previous (studio) one so much, and as I write this, I can't say I remember a lot about this one, except it sounded like a Mellencamp album. That's not bad, but only the one single really sticks out in my mind - I should give it another listen.

The Best That I Could Do 1978-1988 (1997)

I've always liked John Cougar Mellencamp. However, I never really picked up many of his albums until the ones listed here (although I did have Uh-Huh & Scarecrow on tape awhile back). Figured a Greatest Hits album would cover most of his earlier material. :)

Again, I don't know why I bought this one, I never really bought Mellencamp "albums". He was always someone I liked songs here and there from. However, this one has a nice upbeat feel to it (hence the title). If I remember right, John had either had a heart attack, or some sort of major health problem and was happy to have survived it, and his music was more upbeat than usual.

As I write this now, I cannot tell you why I bought this album. I cannot remember any of the songs on it - in fact, I don't know why I have it! I haven't listened to it in years, I suppose I should break it out and give it a listen, probably will sound like a new album to me. :)
