Heart

Jupiters Darling (2004)

Heart returns in 2004 with their first new studio album in about a decade. The last studio album (1993's Desire Walks On) had one balls to the wall song, and the rest was their crappy ballad stuff. So it was with some trepidation that I approached a new Heart CD. The years in between the Wilson sisters spent on another project called the "Lovemongers", which is even more ballad driven. However, my fears were unfounded.

This is a wonderful Heart album. There's one song on here that is really borderline heavy metal (Move On), and a couple more that are some good strong songs (Make Me, I Give Up, Oldest Story in the World). This is a wonderful pickup, and comes extremely highly recommended from me.

The Essential Heart (2002)

This is a wonderful compilation. I ditched all my Heart studio albums (except one) in favor of this. I can't think of a song (that's not on Bad Animals) of Heart's that isn't on here. Sounds great, nice to have all my Heart material in one place. If you like Heart, get this. Covers all their stuff. 70's & 80's material (as well as the few things they did in the 90's, too).

The Road Home (1995)

Again, a live album that really works for me (most of them don't). The sound is great, Ann & Nancy sound wonderful, and it's an intimate setting for them being back home. Wonderful live CD.

Bad Animals (1987)

When I met my wife for the first time, it was back in 1987, and this album was current. A lot of the songs meant a lot to me, and when I recently replaced all my old Heart CD's with a 2 CD Greatest Hits (see below), this is the only one that survived, because there's lots of songs here I like that aren't on the GH album. This is considered the height of Heart's "80's pop", but I like it, even though I like their much harder 70's material, too.
