Chinese Democracy (2008)

I am not going to get into the length of development of this thing. It's quite legendary, and it's closest competition, Duke Nukem Forever has never come out. :) This isn't really GnR truthfully. However, I'm a huge Black Sabbath fan, and I supported Tony Iommi through the times when he was the only original left, so I owed it to Axl to give this a fair shake. And you know what? I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.

The music itself? Several of the songs turned up online in bootleg form a couple of years before it was released, most notably I.R.S. It seemed OK, but nothing special. When the album finally showed up, I have to say I didn't know what to expect. So I put it in, and I have to say the first song, the title track feels a lot like classic GnR. There were several other tracks I liked. This wasn't just a "one song and done" album. The other cool thing is the musical styles are all over the place. They're not just hard rock, there's slow stuff, some funk, etc. As I sit here writing this, I can't categorize all of the stuff, but it's a nice variety - something else that surprised me, and keeps me listening past the first few tracks. The change in styles from song to song makes for a nice layered feel, which is something I don't get on everything I listen to. I really do like the songs "Riad N' The Bedouins" & "If the World" - these are ones I enjoyed a lot.

I really REALLY enjoyed this album. Far more than I thought I would - it shocked me. Don't believe the hype that it's crap. Is it true Guns & Roses? No, but it's a darn solid hard rock album from front to back.

Something else to note was the song Shacker's Revenge was released on the videogame Rock Band 2, something new at the time. It also was an exclusive through Best Buy, which is who I link to above.

Use Your Illusion II (1991)

The Use Your Illusion albums are better than the Appetite album. However, I feel about them the same way I feel about Appetite. Rarely listen to 'em anymore, but don't want to get rid of them, either.

This actually was released on the same day as Part I, but this software won't show the date on two entries in he same category for the same date. :)

Appetite for Destruction (1987)

At the time this was new, I was really into this. Now, I can't remember the last time I listened to it. However, there's some great stuff on here, so I keep it hanging around. :)
