Bond, James
Casino Royale Soundtrack (2006)
A new Bond, a new direction. Daniel Craig takes over as 007. This is probably the closest James Bond has looked on screen to the original Fleming written word. Sean Connery was close, and I thought Timothy Dalton was as well. But Craig's performance has nailed it. This IS James Bond.
Yeah, I know this is more about the movie than the music. This soundtrack is odd in that the theme song is not here. That track is "You Know My Name", by former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. That is available independently as an iTunes download. In fact, the version of this album I bought was through iTunes. The standard CD version has about 15 tracks less than the digital iTunes version does. Not sure why that is, other than as a purchase incentive. But I loved the movie, it has some great music, so I picked it up on iTunes.
If you're a movie soundtrack fan, you'll probably like this. If you're not, I would pass on this, despite the quality of the movie.
Die Another Day Soundtrack (2002)
Wow! By far the best Brosnan 007 flick, and my second favorite Bond flick of all time. The soundtrack is awesome too. Lots of great stuff in here, and I actually enjoy listening to the soundtrack portions of the CD, which I don't always do. Great one here. Could have done without Madonna's appearance in the movie and her attempt to make a Bond theme techno, however.
Bought this one because there's far more songs I like on it - The soundtrack portions aren't the greatest this time around, but the two songs on it are great.
Thing is, my favorite song on this album is the song by K.D. Lang. That's the song that got played over the end credits. Thing is, it's significantly better than the title track done by Sheryl Crow.
Goldeneye Soundtrack (1995)
First off, I realize the alphabetizing of the James Bond soundtracks is weird here. I did that because I wanted to have all of them together, and I picked the name "Bond, James" to use for alphabetizing. When I bought this, I wasn't much into soundtracks, I bought it based off of the strength of a few tracks (Goldeneye, and a piece called Ladies First). There's some good Russian sounding soundtrack music here, too.
