Under a Violet Moon (1999)

Raise your hats and your glasses too
We will dance the whole night through
We're going back to a time we knew
Under a Violet Moon - HEY!

Those are the lyrics to the title track of the second album from "Blackmore's Night", an album fronted by Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night. Blackmore's most noted for being the legendary guitar sound of Deep Purple. Night is known for taking the balls out of one rock's greatest guitarists (or at least Yoko Ono'ing him into obscurity). At least that's the opinion of a lot of rock fans. Ritchie did one final Rainbow album after finally parting with Deep Purple for good in 1994. After he did the final Rainbow album, he did this "Blackmore's Night" project. If you look at the liner notes to the final Rainbow album (of which Night is on), you can see the seeds of Ritchie going to this "Renaissance Music" stuff.

Anyway, the lyrics that I have at the top are from (IMO) the catchiest song on the album, the title track. Most of the rest of the album I don't much care for, as this album isn't my style, but I got it because at the time I finally broke down and got it, I had some store credit, and listened to a bootleg download a few times, and (then) didn't have such an aversion to it. I suppose when I'm in the right mood now, I could probably still like it, but it's not something I reach for first. I'd have to be really mellow.

I'm not sure what to write beyond this. The title track is extremely catchy for me, the rest of the album, not so much. Although their cover of the old Rainbow track Self Portrait is amusing. :)
